Emeryville's Hollis Street Center, the original project where the pioneering ordinance for live-work studios was developed, was the first industrial building in the Bay Area to be legally converted to artists' lofts and studio-residences. Originally built by General Cable Corporation in the early 1920s, this mixed-use facility houses more than two dozen artists and offers prime office and light industrial space. Tenants include architects, contractors and artisans who specialize in quality printing and stained glass restoration.
